When can I study in the Study Spaces?

The Study Spaces only open during the exam period. The Spring edition starts on Monday 11 May and runs until Friday 26 June.

Some Open Spaces are open all year round. You can recognise them on the map by the book-icon. At these locations, you don't have to check in and/or register.

What is the difference between a Study Space and an Open Space?

A Study Space only offers seats for students studying at a university or college. You need to create an account on the platform to check in and out on arrival and departure. This way, the occupancy rate is always up to date!

An Open Space is open to everyone, not just students. There is no check-in system, so you don't need an account to gain access. If you really want to be sure of a seat, you can call the reception desk for more information!

Is everyone allowed to study in the Study Spaces?

Anyone studying at a college or university can visit the Study Spaces. Even if you do not study in Brussels. It is important to register with the official e-mail address provided by your institution.

Do you not meet this condition and are you for example still in secondary school? You can still use the Open Spaces without an account.

Is there wifi?

Each Study Space has a free wifi connection. Ask for the code at the reception or the supervisor.

Is there place for group work?

No, the Study Spaces are silent study areas. Ask the supervisor if there is a room where you can have a chat.

Can I eat or drink in the Study Spaces?

Drinking is allowed, eating is not. Are you hungry? Give yourself a break and go outside.

With which e-mail address can I register?

All college and university students are welcome in the Study Spaces. It is important to register with the official e-mail address of your institution. Having trouble registering? Then the extension of your e-mail address may not be in our database yet. Send an e-mail to studyspaces@brik.be and we'll help you out!

I did not receive a confirmation e-mail.

When creating your account, you have to confirm your e-mail address once. Some servers are unfortunately not as big a fan of Study Spaces as you are, and block this confirmation mail. Be sure to check your SPAM box; if you don't find anything there either, it's best to send an e-mail to studyspaces@brik.be. A Brik employee will then manually verify your account.

Do I need to make a reservation?

In almost all Study Spaces you need to reserve a place in advance, this is indicated on the home page. Reservations can be made up to 3 days in advance via the Study Space's page.

How do I book a place?
  1. Check in on the platform.
  2. Choose a Study Space.
  3. Book a place during the opening hours.
  4. Arrive on time! If you are 25 minutes late, your reservation expires.
How far in advance can I reserve a place?

You can reserve a place up to three days in advance. New reservations will be released one hour before the opening time of the Study Space. Does the Study Space open at 9 am? New reservations will be released at 8 am.

Is the Study Space fully booked? Sometimes students do not show up for their reservation and their spot is released again. Check the platform regularly and who knows, you might still get a spot.

What if I don't get to my reservation on time?

If you are not going to arrive at your reservation on time, it is best to cancel and eventually make a new reservation for a later time. After three no-shows, you will be blocked for one week. This means that you will not be able to make any reservations for one week.

How can I check and cancel my reservations?

Click on your initials at the top right and go to 'Reservations'. Here you can see all your reservations and cancel them if you wish. To change the time of your reservation, you must first cancel your reservation and then make a new one.

I am blacklisted, what now?

If you are 3 times too late for your reservation, you will be blacklisted. This means that you will not be able to make any reservations for a whole week. You can still study at locations where no reservations are required.

How do I check in and out?

There is a tablet at the entrance of each Study Space. Use the tablet to scan your personal QR code to check in and out.

Tip: take a screenshot of your code or print it out. This way you will always have the code with you.

How does checking in and out at numbered seats work?

Same as for non-numbered seats. Make sure that if you make multiple reservations on one day (e.g. seat A: 10am - 12pm, seat B: 12pm - 5pm) you check yourself in again on seat B at 12pm.

Can I check in earlier than the start time of my reservation?

You can check yourself in from one hour before your reservation start time. Are you more than 25 minutes later than the start hour of your reservation? Then your reservation is no longer valid and your place will be made available to someone new. If this happens 3 times, you will be blacklisted and cannot make reservations for one week.

Why do I need to check in?

Seats in the Study Space are limited. We work with reservations to avoid long waiting times at the entrance. We check at each entrance who has made a reservation and who has not.

Why do I need to check out?

Seats in the Study Space are limited. By checking out, you will free up space for someone new.

Is it already late and you don't think another student will come to study in your place tonight? Even then, it is still useful to check out! We learn a lot from the hour you leave the Study Space and can thus better tailor opening hours to demand.

How can I participate as a location for the Study Spaces?

Cool that you consider hosting students at your location! Send an email to studyspaces@brik.be and Tessa will be happy to explain how it works.

I have a new location in mind!

Finding new locations is challenging. It's much appreciated that you help us find new venues. Feel free to send your suggestion(s) via email and don't forget to mention your contact person if you know anyone in this organisation.
